What FamilyKey knows about you: nothing.

Last updated: 9 October 2026

FamilyKey is made by A Brand New Company (ABN). In short: we collect nothing. No account, no server, no tracking. Nothing leaves the phones, not to us and not to anyone else. That's why the App Store says: Data Not Collected.

What we don't do

  • You don't create an account. We don't know your name, email address or phone number, nor your parent's.
  • The app sends nothing to us or anyone else. FamilyKey has no server. There's no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no third party crash reporting inside.
  • FamilyKey reads no messages or email, sees no balance and no bank details, and doesn't look inside the bank app. It doesn't track location and takes no screenshots.
  • iOS itself keeps which apps get a pause. The app only gets a shielded reference, no names. Only the lock screen shows the name of the app being opened, on the iPhone itself.
  • Codes don't travel over the internet. Your phone makes them, your parent's iPhone checks them. If you share a code with the Share button, it goes through the app you pick. We never see it.

The call check: only whether there's a call

The calm pause doesn't count down while there's a call or the screen is being shared. For that, FamilyKey on your parent's iPhone only checks whether a call is going on right now, and whether the screen is being recorded or shared. It never sees who is calling, which number, for how long or what about. It doesn't see what's on the screen. Nothing of it is kept and nothing is sent.

What stays on the phones

On your mum's or dad's iPhone

  • The settings: how long the pause lasts, how long the bank apps stay open after it, the night lock and what happens during a call. Plus the apps that get a pause, as an iOS reference.
  • Each helper's name and phone number, as the helper typed them, for the Call button.
  • In that iPhone's Keychain: the secret of each linked helper, the PIN as a salted hash (it can't be turned back into the PIN) and the counters for wrong codes.

On your phone

  • Per linked person a name, like Mum, and the link secret, in your phone's Keychain.

Link secrets stay in the Keychain of each phone. They don't go into a backup or to a new phone, and the app never shows them. The rest may be in the phone's own backup, in iCloud or on a computer. Only you can get to that. We can't get to anything.

Permissions the app asks for

Screen Time, on your parent's iPhone

To give bank apps a pause, FamilyKey uses Apple's Screen Time features. Apple asks for your mum's or dad's own Face ID or passcode: that is their permission. You pick the apps in Apple's own list. The app doesn't see how long apps are used.

Camera, on your parent's iPhone

Only to scan the helper's QR code when you link. No photo is taken or kept.

Face ID, on your phone

Before every code the app asks for Face ID or your passcode. iOS checks it. The app never sees your face and keeps nothing of it.

Notifications

On iPhones with iOS below 26.5, a notification takes your parent from the lock screen into FamilyKey. The iPhone schedules those itself. Nothing goes through a server.

Calling

The Call button opens the Phone app with the number the helper typed in. FamilyKey doesn't make the call itself and doesn't see it.

Purchase

You buy FamilyKey in the App Store. Apple handles the payment under its own privacy policy. We receive no personal data about you. Apple only shows us sales figures that can't be traced to you, and crash reports from people who chose to share them with developers.

Deleting

Delete the app and the settings and secrets on that phone are gone. On the protected iPhone that takes a code or a helper's PIN. There's nothing on our side to delete.

This website

This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no scripts or fonts from others.

To deliver the page to you, our host Vercel Inc. and the Cloudflare Inc. network process technically necessary data, like your IP address, the page address and the time, in server logs. We do this on the basis of legitimate interest: without that data a website doesn't work and can't be protected against abuse. We only use the logs when something goes wrong, and can see them for a day at most. We don't keep or export them. Vercel and Cloudflare keep them a short while longer for security, under their own privacy policies.

Vercel and Cloudflare are American companies, so data may go to the United States. Both are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which allows that transfer under the GDPR.

If you email us, we use your address and message only to answer you, also on the basis of legitimate interest. We keep the email while your question is open and at most a year after, and delete it sooner if you ask.

Who is responsible

A Brand New Company (ABN), Volume 88, 1446 WJ Purmerend, the Netherlands. Chamber of Commerce (KvK) 88565548. Reach us at info@abn.company.

Because the app collects nothing, there's nothing about your use of the app for us to show, correct or erase. If you emailed us, you can always ask to see or delete that email. You also always have the right to complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes

If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. If the app ever starts collecting anything, we'll say so beforehand, in the app and in the App Store.
